Sailor Moon Episode 6 - Txedo Mask (aka The Meloncholy of Usagi Tsukino)

Yeah. So episode 6 of Sailor Moon has been aired and... I gotta say that I'm not a huge fan of this episode. But there are several technical reasons why I didn't enjoy this episode as much and one personal reason.

The first tech reason is the vast number of odd shots and camera positioning. There were a lot of scenes where faces were cut off for long periods of time, and weird angles where it felt like someone had pressed the zoom button and forgot to zoom back out. There's even a weird shot where it looks like Tuxedo Mask is talking to Sailor Moon's boobs. (Awkward...)

I don't know if they were going for a more artistic look or what, but the technique was way overused in this episode.

The next reason was the mass amount of exposition. I mean, there was a lot of exposition. It made this episode seem super slow as most of the time the senshi were just standing around talking.
There were a few script aspects I would have changed as well. I was a bit upset when Queen Baryl did a cop out "you'll pay for this" cliche line. A better line would have been a comment about reassessing the situation or a "don't think you've won" line.

Finally, the personal reason. It's.... Usagi. She is my least favorite senshi and episodes focused on her usually tend to be wishy-washy and melancholy. Plus you have to deal with her ditzy stupidity which is only cute for 30 seconds. She sucks up screen time and lacks common sense, making it frustrating to watch. In one scene, she knows her friends are getting their butts kicked, but she's too worried about transforming in front of TM. The smart thing to do would be to just run away somewhere and take care of business. But it becomes obvious that the lives of her team are better off being sacrificed.

I'm also annoyed that the senshi choose to transform in front of Zoicite.... I forgot how loose they are with their secret identities.

Moving on, there were some good points to this episode. I enjoyed seeing Mars, Mercury, and Jupiter manipulate their elements during their fight with Zoicite. It's a nice change from only using their special attacks as their only attacks. Even Mercury looked like she could hold her own.

There were some nice pan shots, a couple of good close ups with some awesome expressions, and we get to see Mamoru without a shirt, so there's that...

Oh! And we got an awesome glimpse of Venus and another look at the super hot Kunzite.

I'd say I was looking forward to the next episode, but... It looks like it may be a repeat of what we just saw. More mopey Usagi as she kills an episode to sort out her feeling. Ugh...

MY FAVORITE SCREENSHOTS!!!

The angle of this scene created a great atmosphere of just how

Chibi video game Sailor V is super cute.

Usagi is good at playing the helpless female, but I gotta give props to the simplistic beauty of this shot.
One of the few times where Sailor Moon make an awesome entrance. And then she ruined it by calling herself a weak crybaby. Someone please give this girl a lesson in "bluffing 101"
I love that Beryl comes down like a final boss. She really does look quite menacing in this scene.
I like the new Moon Healing Escalation animation. The swirling power looks way more tangible than the old animation.
I hope to see Sailor V very soon. But I know we still have some time before we can see her in action.
